Prologue
Iczer was quite an original experience when it came out. It was the first series to combine seemingly un-combinable genres. Please bare my several parentheses Τhe girly Mahou Shoujo (magical girls) genre met the Shounen (for boys) Mecha (giant robots) genre and the Seinen (for men) Gekiga (tragic stories) genre. The result was not exactly good but it did stand out thanks to its originality.

Animation & Sound: 6
All its optical and sound elements are common in most science fiction series. BUT! … There are many scenes that are very attractive and depressing, in spite of their commonness. Do you like yuri (lesbians)? Check! Do you like nudity, depravity, meaningless deaths and the sort? Check! Do you like grim atmosphere and not a sight of a good ending? Yes, check here too! You won’t be disappointed to see all these between fights with super chicks and giant robots! Hi Hi Hi! … But, seriously now, if you can’t stand depressing stories, Iczer is not for you. Don’t ruin your psychology just to watch some nude/mass destruction scenes.

Story & Characters: 4
The story is clichéd as hell. Alien invaders want to destroy Earth and a super powerful space girl comes to the rescue.

To hell with the scenario! This series is about sex, violence and death. There are characters who have goals, like world domination, avenging the death of a loved one and protecting your family, but who gives a damn? There is no real character development and all of them have stereotypical personalities. It’s the chick fights and the mass-destructions that you’re really going to like.

Value & Enjoyment: 6
The action scenes are decent. There are nude/yuri/sentimental scenes to keep you interested in between. I have seen a lot better elsewhere but its genre-mixing originality simply makes the whole deal much better. There have been sequels to this series, none of which is as good as the original. So, some value and enjoyment does exist here. Though, the small duration and the superficial personalities do ruin most of the fun. It was an ok watch but nothing special after you finish it.
