I will compare the OVA with the series. If you want a full report about what this title is all about, please redirect to my Hokuto no Ken review of the series.

Story & Characters: 6
This OVA is more of a flavor and less of an addition to the first Hokuto no Ken series. It is advised to watch it after the series, since it doesn’t involve the entire story and simply focuses on one character.

This OVA simply fleshes out the personality of Yuria (the protagonist’s sweetheart) a bit. The basic events remain mostly the same as in the series but it will feel like they took out most of the already simple story and replaced it with flashier graphics. The characters look a lot more realistic than in the series but there is simply no time to bind with them. You will like them a lot more than in the series but as a stand alone OVA you will find them to be quite dry.

Animation & Sound: 10
Perfect! They didn’t thought of the expenses while making the OVA. You get to watch the best technology has to offer. No more choppy animation and cheesy effects. Sheer dynamic everywhere you look.

Value & Enjoyment: 6
If you expect extremely violent and realistic battles, there isn’t much to look at. If you expect more story and new revelations, you will be disappointed. You will like it just as a flavor to the series and nothing more.
