Story: 5
A very old series, loosely based on the famous Chinese fairy tale Journey To The West. In it, three space heroes, dressed as the animal gods in the fairy tale, protect a princess (the monk in the original) from the armies of evil tyrants (demon lords in the original). Nothing special, no plot twists, predictable conclusion.

Characters: 5
The characters are the epitome of stereotypes. The three heroes have the personality of the usual Super Sentai characters (a good-hearted handsome youth, a serious/silent heavy-dude and a fat guy for comic relief). The princess is your typical beautiful fair lady, found in every fairy tale. And the villains are your run-of-the-mill insane megalomaniacs that scheme and kill anyone standing in their way.

I must say that the viciousness of the bad guys overshadows the too-goodiness of the protagonists. The heroes were boring stunts, found in a billion series. But those tyrants were slaughtering thousands of women and children for fun and making their own allies self-destroy in order to win a battle. And even committed suicide instead of facing justice. I tell you, the scriptwriters must have had Adolf Hitler as a model for them. They were despicable but also COOL sons of bitches!

Animation & Sound: 4
Too crude to stand for long. Simple drawn and colored character figures, fake battles, stupid voice acting, pathetic music themes. But at least, they were in color!

Value & Enjoyment: 3
Nah! It was very boring. Nothing you won’t find elsewhere… Only those inhuman scheming villains are worth remembering.

Verdict
I regret to inform you that the patient has left us. But worry not, as his ideals keep living inside his descendants.
