Review - One Piece: Taose! Kaizoku Ganzack
February 19, 2008 – 5:07 pmReview by Roriconfan
Story: 3
There are no ties with the main story. It is a stand-alone OVA of One Piece and can be regarded as a typical filler episode. The story takes place after episode 8 (right after Nami joins the crew).
The Straw Hat pirates end up on an island, were a crab-like pirate uses the inhabitants to build him a ship. Our heroes agree to defeat the pirate so their ship (still a boat) can be repaired. Nami of course, thinks of ways to betray someone and make a buck.
With only 25 minutes in duration, the story is really simple. Plus, it was essentially just a retelling of episodes 5 to 8. So, no story or originality can be found here.
Characters: 5
The Straw Hat pirates are as funny as they were in the series. Since this is a filler story, no character development takes place.
The main bad guy, Gunzack, is just a hybrid between Buggy and Don Krieg. He has no backdrop story or any interest as a villain.
Animation: 5
The graphics are far inferior to the series, made by different animators. Very low on budget that easily turn you off.
Sound: 7
Sound effects and voice acting were kept the same as in the series. Fans of the show will appreciate the fact that at least this department was not butchered.
Value: 1
This OVA has nothing to offer to the series. You can skip it without missing a thing.
Enjoyment: 3
The fighting scenes were ok but not worth remembering.
Verdict
Yo ho ho and a bottle of filler… I mean rum.
