Story: 6
This is the third One Piece movie. There are no ties with the main story. It is a stand-alone movie and can be regarded as a typical filler episode. The story takes place after episode 90 (right after Chopper joins the crew).
The Straw Hat pirate crew finds an island inhabited by weird animals. Three evil merchants are looking for the legendary Animal King’s Horns, which bestow great powers to their holder. Chopper tries to help his animal friends and thinks about leaving the group and stay on the island.
The story is rather simple. But it is packed with nice action sequences and has Chopper’s dilemma to make things more dramatic.
Characters: 6
The Straw Hat pirates are as funny as they were in the series. Since this is a filler story, no character development takes place. Chopper is the main character of the story.
The main bad guys were just generic villains with no backdrop story. But their ridiculous personalities made them a bit interesting.
Animation: 8
The graphics are of much higher quality than the series. There are many aesthetic details in the animation and the motion fluidity is very good.
Sound: 7
Sound effects and voice acting were kept the same as in the series.
Value: 3
This movie has nothing to offer to the series. It is a fine stand-alone adventure but there is no reason to rewatch it.
Enjoyment: 7
The fighting scenes were great and Chopper’s dilemma interesting. A generally enjoyable movie.
Verdict
Yo ho ho and a bottle of filler… I mean rum.
