Prologue
As it goes with most successful titles, there are “omake” that give flavor to a story you have just finished. This mini episode is a parody of .hack//SIGN and .hack//DUSK . You will miss the jokes if you haven’t seen both.

Animation: 2
The animators decided to make fun of SIGN’s great animation by making GIFT as ugly as possible . It is only supposed to shock you and make you appreciate SIGN even more. And it did for me, as I thought “Man! Imagine how terrible it would be with this kind of animation!”. Of course, this way it also cost the producers nothing and helped them earn easy money from the suckers who made the mistake of buying it.

Sound: 10
Music themes and voices are the same as in SIGN (thank God!). They don’t last long but do have the same awesome quality as before.

Story & Characters: 2
The story is just an excuse for lame humor. The characters from the show try to solve a murder case and end up doing stupidities. No real scenario and really undermining for their personalities.

Value - Enjoyment: 1
Just as SIGN had a lot of boring talking, GIFT has a lot of lame humor.

Let’s face it. This episode was made just to nag at how bad it is and maintain the hype of SIGN until ROOTS would begin airing. But now that it did, there is no reason to see it or even download it.

Verdict
The accused is found … GUILTY! … for making fun of serious people without being actually funny.
